HOW TO USE THIS SITE

IMPORTANT! It's not compulsory to register - you can view some items as a visiting guest - but you will only see a part of our website. Some items are only visible to registered members, so please register then log in to see all the news and reports on our site.

Existing Members can Log In to see everything on this site or, if you are new to the site please Register using the button at the top of this page.

Registation only takes a few minutes and enables us to keep a track of the number of members. The more registrations we have the easier it will be to attract sponsors in order to keep the site alive and vibrant. You need only provide minimal details which will NOT be used for any other purpose.

Click on any menu button at the top (e.g. "News")  to see the introduction to each section, or hover your cursor over it to see other items. Sometimes there are other sub-menus (look carefully as a small white arrow indicates a sub-menu) - hovering over a button will reveal these (e.g. hover your cursor over "Results" to see the season's results week-by-week).

New items are being added all the time, so keep coming back to see what's happening! (The "announcements" section will usually advise you of any important new additions other than the weekly updates such as results and tables).

During the season we get over 6,000 hits a week!  The new record for hits in a week is over 8,000 hits in the first week of September 2011. Also there were over 8,000 hits in the month of January 2011, a remarkable number for out-of-season!

Our thanks to all our readers. We hope that you are finding something interesting or informative here, so keep coming back, we're still adding items during the close season (and, as you can see, they're proving extremely popular)!

 Reader Cricket Balls Minimize

There have been several enquiries regarding the rules about Reader balls for the coming season so the League Secretary has asked that the extract from the rule book be highlighted on this site to help clarify the situation. IMPORTANT - If you have already purchased balls for 2012 please contact the League Secretary as soon as possible. He will then arrange for you to be a "special case" and you will have permission to use your existing balls. This will also ensure that the Umpires are advised accordingly.

Reader Cricket Balls

Part of the above sponsorship arrangements was an agreement at the last AGM for the following rule to be implemented:

Rule 3.8 Ball

3.8(i) to read: All balls will be stamped as a BDCL ball and must be purchased through League arrangements as communicated. Each club shall provide its own ball for use when fielding. In the Championship Division, the match ball shall be new. In all other Divisions the match ball may not be new, but in all Divisions, the spare ball must not be new.

In the Championship Division, the match ball must be:

·        Reader Sovereign

In all other Divisions, the match ball must be any of the following:

·        Reader Sovereign – Reader County Match – Reader League Special

The LMC are aware that, whilst this league rule should be adhered to, there may be individual circumstances at some clubs whereby in the first season (2012) a quantity of new

balls may be left over from the previous season or a certain number of new balls had already been purchased prior to this sponsorship agreement with Readers and the rule change on the 19th November 2011.

The LMC will listen carefully to such instances by letter or e mail and will be sympathetic to clubs in this regard on this one occasion. Any such requests should be forwarded to the League Secretary in good time before the 2012 season begins. In principal, the umpires will be expecting to be presented with Reader balls at the beginning of each game and will be informed about clubs who have requested a dispensation as outlined above. During season 2012 only, whilst it is asked that the Reader balls be used as often as possible as ‘second used or spare balls’, during the first season (2012), the LMC will allow another make of ball to be used if this is felt necessary in the interests of club cost effectiveness with spare balls.

Therefore, the arrangements for ordering, collecting and paying for Reader cricket balls in accordance with the above rule are:

The Reader cricket ball of your choice (as above) should be ordered by completion of the GENERIC READER BALL ORDER FORM. (A copy is in the "News" menu) This should be sent electronically by each club to Mr. Neal Pullen of Kookaburra Reader Ltd to:

                        neil@alfredreader.com

The sender of the order form for each respective club should provide his or her contact details and the name of the club (stating being a member of the BDCL). The Reader cricket balls will then be delivered to the designated delivery points (either Mapperley Sports in the south of county or Batting 46 in Retford in the north of the county) as chosen by the respective club on the order form, from where they will be collected and paid for at the shop. Readers will invoice the relevant shop and collect payment from the same shop. It may be useful to ask on the email to Neil Pullen for guidance on the timescale involved for delivery to the relevant shop.

·        Mapperley Sports         0115 926 2610

·        Batting 4 6                    01777 702 098

If any club has any further queries about the ordering, collecting or payment of cricket balls for 2012, they should contact the League Secretary

 Umpires Meeting Feb 2012 Minimize

FORMER NOTTS. OPENER PAUL TODD IS UMPIRES GUEST

THE Bassetlaw Umpires Association guest on Saturday February 4th is the former Nottinghamshire opening batsman PAUL TODD. Paul was born in Southwell in 1953 and made it on to the Nottinghamshire staff in 1972. He was by nature a forceful and entertaining batsman who always carried the fight to the opposition and in full cry frequently moved Notts. away to some explosive starts.

Career wise he scored a total of 7663 runs at an average of 26.79 with a highest score of 178 against Gloucestershire at Trent Bridge. His first class career saw him make nine centuries, 41 fifties and he was also a first class fielder pouching 119 catches. In one day matches he scored 2890 runs at an average of 19.79.

After eleven years at Notts., he had to retire due to a family illness, but turned out for Staffordshire in the Minor Counties. It was there that he scored 107 against Glamorgan who rewarded him with a contract and he later scored 135 for them in a match against Worcestershire at New Road.

Paul has played league cricket mainly with Collingham since retiring from the first class game in 1988.

The meeting will be held at Cuckney Cricket Club, Langwith Road, Cuckney NG20 9NG at 2.30 p.m. and everyone is invited for what should be a very interesting afternoon

Important News - Sponsorship and a 3-year League Development Plan Minimize

The Management Committee have been investigating the possibilities of sponsorship for our League, and negotiations with sponsors are now nearing finalisation. In the light of this the LMC have decided upon a 5-point Development Plan outlining the initiatives being considered over the next 3 years.

Here it is...................

Statement of Intent

From January 2012, the League Management Committee of the Bassetlaw & District Cricket League will work in partnership with local sponsors and other facilities within the community to create initiatives and open a pathway by means of the following five point development plan to:

·      Reduce the out-going costs of playing cricket at the recreational level for all clubs throughout the league.

·      Open new opportunities for clubs to receive information and knowledge to improve their playing surfaces, along with general ground standards.

·      Develop opportunities for young players to receive quality coaching at a local venue.

·      Seek options for increasing the number of qualified coaches at clubs to make them more self- sufficient.

·      To maintain and where achievable, raise standards in all aspects of the game for everyone involved, including umpires and scorers.

It is early days yet, and much work has still to be done over the coming months ahead, but it is intended that ALL clubs - large or small - will benefit, and the Management Committee are dedicated to the principle of ensuring that maximum value will be achieved from the sponsorship monies received. The League Secretary's Winter newsletter in the "News" menu contains details about the ball sponsorship with Readers which will enable Bassetlaw League clubs to buy high quality balls at much-reduced prices, and this is just the first of these projects aimed to raise the profile of the Bassetlaw & District Cricket League and maintain its status as one of the top leagues in the country.

Further details will be published here and in Newsletters to clubs over the coming weeks and our grateful thanks goes to Fred Clark of Sportsmedia Advertising for his magnificent work on this project.

 Unwanted Cricket Equipment Wanted Minimize

One of our sponsors, Batting 4 6, have just agreed to support LV= SOS Kit Aid which is a registered UK charity supported by The Lords Taverners, ECB and IRB, who provide unwanted cricket and rugby kit to disadvantaged children in the UK and overseas. The programme makes a positive and tangible impact on the lives of young people by giving children of all abilities and backgrounds the chance to participate in sporting activities. It promotes social inclusion and helps drive a sustainable environment through recycling.

We are looking to encourage anyone to bring in their unwanted kit or equipment in to the kind people at the Batting 4 6 store instead of it cluttering up your garage for another season. We are hoping to give them a real boost from this part of the country, so please give them your gear if it's no longer any use to you, it will go to a very worthwhile cause.

Guidelines for Rolling Cricket Pitches Minimize

Are you rolling your pitches too much? Cranfield University's research has revealed that only 10 passes of a roller may be enough to optimise your rolling program. Anything more may be a waste of time and money.

You can download the guidelines at http://www.cranfield.ac.uk/sas/naturalresources/research/projects/rolling.html

The report is rather scientific and may be heavy going for some readers, but the conclusions are very interesting and may alter some groundsmen's attitude to pitch rolling. In addition, it's always a good idea for cricket groundsmen to attend the Institute of Groundsmanship courses and details of local courses are regularly posted on this site You can also contact Stewart Burrows at Trent Bridge on stewartburrows@nottsccc.co.uk for further information.
